Is an independent Catalonia economically viable?

Press/Media: Research

Description

Jose Rodriguez Mora's research uses a theoretical model that shows the effects on the trade between Catalonia and Spain and the rest of the world and also compares Spain with the Portugese case. This simulation shows what would happen if  Catalonia was integrated into the EU. The simulation showed that the increase in disposable income due to the fiscal savings that Catalonia would obtain by not having to pay any tax transfer to the rest of Spain would be negated by the consequences of the combination of  lower productivity and reduced worker's wages. This result derived from the loss of business quality is an aspect that has been scarcely valued until now.
