Press/Media: Expert Comment

Description

'Fascinating Mummies' has exhibits dating as far back as 4000BC, and features a significant scientific component, informed by the work of female scientists. It includes a very recent CT scan of the Rhind Mummy from the National Museums Scotland’s collection. The scan provided new information, which cannot otherwise be seen, about the mummification of the body and its condition, the biological profile of the individual and reveals the scarabs which were enclosed in the wrapping and a papyrus placed behind the right thigh of the mummy. Dr Elena Kranioti, a forensic anthropologist in Archaeology (SHCA) talked to Liz Leonard about her forensic investigation using innovative virtual techniques and 3D tools.
