Abstract
The research project to which this data relates involves a case study of the Scottish career education system. The purpose of this study was to examine the conceptual and practical complexities of supporting children and adolescents’ career preparedness for automation and the changing world of work. In carrying out this research interviews were conducted with two policymakers involved in children’s career education in the Scottish Government, along with interviews with five Scottish primary and secondary school teachers. A focus group was also completed with seven career practitioners at Skills Development Scotland. Publicly accessible documents relating to the career education of children were also reviewed. Using a thematic analysis approach, findings from the case study revealed various conceptual and practical challenges and opportunities for supporting children’s career preparedness under changing career conditions. The dataset includes documents detailing the coding and thematic mapping of career documents, focus group discussions, and interviews with Scottish career education policymakers and practitioners. Interview guides and anonymised transcripts are also included in the dataset.
