Abstract
Syrian Stories is documentary film about the experience of exile in countries close to home. It was produced as part of a series of workshops held in Beirut, Amman and Istanbul during 2017. These individual stories, collected together as a feature film, reflect on the different realities and the diversity of experience of Syrians displaced by the conflict. In a cinematic journey through landscapes, emotions and mentalities, we encounter Syrians of all sorts and witness how - in the words of Yassin Haj Saleh - “the personal has become public and political and the public and political has become personal”. This film allows young Syrian filmmakers who have dedicated their video skills to war reporting to use visual storytelling with ordinary human moments, exploring the resilience of being a refugee on the door step of their country. ## Access ## This dataset is held in the Edinburgh DataVault, directly accessible only to authorised University of Edinburgh users.
