Abstract
This dataset records experimental outputs (motions and mooring loads) from a scale model wave measurement buoy deployed in the FloWave Ocean Energy Research Facility. This work was part of the "Accounting for Current in Wave Buoy Measurements" project and was funded by the EPSRC Supergen ORE hub. The experimental data provided here relates to wave buoy tests with a taut and flexible (elastic) mooring under current and regular wave conditions. The six degree of freedom motions and mooring loads are provided for current-only, wave-only and combined wave-current over a range of directions and wave frequencies. The dataset was generated to provide improved tools to extend the ability of wave buoys to operate in areas subjected to waves and currents. The simple sphere form of the buoy also lends itself well to the validation of numerical modelling studies.
