Physical Geography Laboratory (PGL)

Facility/equipment: Facility

    Equipments Details

This facility is principally devoted to the sampling and preparation of core samples (e.g. peat and tephra). This includes general lab bench top work such as sorting of samples and finds, drying of samples and loss on ignition measurements, particle size measurements (sieving), pollen and diatom preparation, including slide preparation, water quality measurements, and tephra electron microprobe slide preparation.

Microscope and stereomicroscope analysis (research and teaching uses) is undertaken on microfossils and tephra. Storage of organic samples is available in a cold room.
