Overview

The Academy of Sport is a network of collaborators both within and external to the University of Edinburgh that provides a gathering place for the worlds of sport to meet.

Building upon a remarkable heritage of involvement with sport dating back to at least 1591, the Academy of Sport, established in 2014, was born from a desire to serve communities locally and globally.

Two premises guide our work that sport has a part to play in addressing the challenges that face humanity in the 21st century and to serve as an independent think tank – sports observatory- that addresses such challenges through evidence, dialogue and advocacy.

The Academy build upon the idea that sport is recognized for excellence in research, education and advocacy that transforms lives and makes a difference to society.

As a gathering place for the exchange of ideas and sporting enlightenment we are neutral, inclusive and at the heart of an international sporting landscape
