Our research ranges from fundamental cell and evolutionary biology through to biomedical and industrial applications. We aim to make exciting scientific discoveries and to ensure our research makes a difference in the world.

We are one of the largest centres of biological science in the UK. The 2014 UK research excellence assessment placed us 3rd in the UK for our research quality, and we are ranked in the UK top 5 and world top 25 for biological sciences in both the QS and Times Higher world university rankings. We place a particularly strong emphasis on interdisciplinary research, linking complementary approaches in theoretical and experimental science and working closely with physical sciences, engineering, medical and veterinary sciences.
