Organisation profile

Informatics is one of seven schools in the College of Science and Engineering, at the University of Edinburgh. We are the only School in the College of Science and Engineering that is not located on the King's Buildings campus, but rather in the Central area, thus allowing us to foster networks beyond the usual tech links.

Vision

Our vision at the School of Informatics is to retain and strengthen our position among the top five world-leading centres of research and teaching in computation, information and cognition.

Research Excellence

100% of our impact case studies are world-leading in the REF 2021 assessment for computer science and informatics.  We also received 100% top grades for our environment statement.

The Research Excellence Framework (REF) is the UK’s system for assessing the quality of research in UK higher education institutions.  It assesses research outputs (such as scientific papers), research impact and environment.  Previous assessments took place in 2014 (REF) and 2008 (REA).
