Personal profile

Biography

I have over eighteen years working with children, first as a teacher, and then as an academic. My research focuses on the role of interaction in thinking, and the implications this has for early learning and new forms of technology. I have led a number of grants around children and technology including a recent ESRC Future Research Leader grant. In 2015 I span out a company from the Univeristy of Edinburgh to develop early learning technologies grounded on research.

Design of novel learning representations

Collaborative Activity

I work with a number of learning science groups mainly in the UK and UK.

Currently I am involved in a US National Science Foundation grant looking at the role of the body in early science learning in museums with Miami Science Museum and the University of Illinois.

 

Teaching

I teach and am course leader on the 20 credit Children and Technology Masters course in the School of Education.

I supervise a number of Master disseratation projects focused on chidlren and technology have currently have two PhD students based in Education and Informatics. I welcome any enquiries about supervision for Doctoral studies in the field of Children's Learning and Technology.
