Bea is a Clinical Trial Manager, currently seconded from the Edinburgh Clinical Trials Unit where she worked on a range of large multi-site respiratory and orthopaedic trials. Utilising her prior experience of delivering early phase research, she joined the Pandemic Science Hub in 2024 to drive forward a number of promising medical technologies towards translation, commercialisation and adoption.

Bea’s early interest in healthcare led her to join the NHS in 2016 and begin her subsequent research career in 2018 at the Southampton Clinical Research Facility, delivering commercial and academic phase I-III clinical trials within a range of specialities. Nearly eight years later, she continues to enjoy being part of research that can make a real difference for patients. In her career to date, she has gained expertise in research design, logistics and operations, project management, multi-site management and regulatory pathways. She enjoys applying her enthusiasm, attention to detail, creativity and lateral thinking skills to anticipate and mitigate potential challenges, whilst planning high quality research.

Bea’s research highlights include her contribution to the early phase trials of the COVID-19 ChAdOx1 Oxford-Astrazenca vaccine, which led to co-authorship on related publications. She has also collaborated with Biotech stakeholders and the University of Oxford to successfully deliver a human challenge trial of a genetically modified pertussis vaccine which met primary endpoints to demonstrate safety and efficacy. Her role included overseeing the project development, including design of a bespoke facility to support participants during their 16-night stay.

Bea holds a position as a Committee member on the South East Scotland Research Ethics Committee 2 which involves reviewing research proposals around the UK to protect the dignity, rights and safety of research participants.
