I am a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Edinburgh. My research focuses on the use of high-precision geochronology and geochemistry to understand the timescales, rates, and origins of various geological processes, especially volcanism, but also including: ore deposits, impact craters, plate tectonics, large igneous provinces, and hominid evolution. Previous and current projects include working on active or extinct volcanoes in Australia, beneath the oceans, in Africa, and on Ascension Island in the Atlantic. I have also been lucky enough to examine igneous, metamorphic, and impact cratering processes in other parts of the solar system (including Mars) by studying various meteorites.
