Pioneer of web-based geo-information. Using the web to portray the people and places of Scotland, through the Gazetteer for Scotland (supported by RSGS, the Robertson Trust and SCRAN). Scottish Definitive Place Name Gazetteer (supported by Scottish Government). Developing Natural Neighbourhoods (with City of Edinburgh Council). Using gazetteers to create linked data. Dynamic display of earthquake information using the web. Geographical Information Science. Database management, performance and parallel computing issues related to GIS; distributed GIS; location-based services; web-enabled databases; web mapping; web-based surveys. Use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs).
