Biography

I am Personal Chair of Student Engagement in Higher Education at the Institute for Academic Development, University of Edinburgh, I am a Visiting Fellow at the University of Bergen, Norway and a Visiting Fellow (Knowledge Exchange) at the University of Winchester. I am a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a Fellow of the Staff and Educational Development Association and a member of the Society for Research in Higher Education. I have previously been Associate Editor (Europe) of the International Journal for Academic Development, and I am currently an Editorial Board member for Teaching in Higher Education. I am considered a world leader in co-created curriculum, student-staff partnerships and student engagement having published extensively and given keynote presentations in over 15 countries on her research and practice. I also publish work relating to: peer observation of teaching; higher education curriculum design and conceptualisation; academic development; and international development in education and health.

Prior to working at the University of Edinburgh I worked at the University of Glasgow and Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh. I have been an academic developer for over 15 years but have a background in International Development, Sexual Health Promotion, Medical Education and Mental Health Nursing.
