I am a Lecturer in Language Education in the Institute for Language Education at The Moray House School of Education and Sport, at The University of Edinburgh. I am a member of the Language Education Research Hub at Edinburgh.
I started my academic career at the Faculty of Education, at Simon Fraser University (Canada) where I worked with pre-service and in-service teachers in French Education (Immersion, Core French, Francophone programs), at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. I have been trained as a French as a Second/Foreing Language Teacher and my foundational educational experiences were developed within Educational Sociolinguistics in France.
My scholarship is situated primarily within Plurilingual Education and Educational Sociolinguistics, with a focus on linguistic and cultural diversity, multilingual competencies and language acquisition in minority contexts. My work documents and interprets plurilingual practices and attitudes to multilingualism in families, schools and communities, as well as addressing issues relevant to teacher training and professional development in our rapidly expending world. My research emphasizes how languages mediate social inclusion and express a sense of belonging when speakers mobilize their plurilingual repertoires.
Currently, I am interested in the history of language education and language education policies through the lenses of the Multilingual Turn in Education. I also conduct research on teacher education and professional development, with a particular focus on self-study methodology in order to understand the role of biographies and identities in language education.
