Dr. Kuo-Liang (Daniel) Chuang is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Membrane for Carbon Capture group led by Prof. Maria-Chiara Ferrari at the University of Edinburgh. He is working on the EPSRC funded SynHiSel program to develop membrane separation technologies. Daniel received his Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from National Chung Hsing University in 2017 under the supervision of Prof. Ming-Yen Wey and Prof. Hui-Hsin Tseng (co-supervisor). He uses advanced materials with a focus on green chemistry to address the challenges in advanced gas separation membrane technologies.
His research interests and activities mainly focus on (1) the design of highly effective and efficient selective membranes based on microporous material chemistry; fundamental correlation of structure in various separation processes, such as gas separation, carbon capture, and water treatment; (2) the development of environmentally friendly process in membrane fabrication using green chemistry; (3) the investigation of species diffusion property in membrane, e.g., CO2 diffusion transport in separation membrane, ionic transport in ion exchange membrane.
Developed a method to observe the CO2 diffusion properties in the membrane using infrared spectroscopy.
Investigation of ion transport properties in ion exchange membranes (IEMs) using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurement.
Development of advanced and effective membrane for separation processes through green synthesis process and functional nanomaterials (e.g., MOF and ZIF).
