Biography
David is a Reader in Anaesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine. He is a translational researcher interested in physical recovery after critical illness, and specifically, the potential role of unresolved systemic inflammation in the recovery of muscle function. He is Chief Investigator for the NIHR/MRC funded INTACT2 trial and Chair of the MSc in Critical Care Steering Group.
David has a strong record of development and leadership of projects of strategic importance to the academic vision of Critical Care in Edinburgh. He led the design and implementation of the Intercalated BMedSci in Anaesthesia, Critical Care and Pain in 2015 - Edinburgh University's first clinical BMedSci programme. He subsequently developed the MSc in Critical Care which welcomed its first students in 2019, and now teaches over 100 students annually.
