Debby joined the School of Mathematics in August 2020 as a University Teacher of Statistics. Her teaching experience is varied having taught languages and drama to people of all ages in addition to experience in developping and delivering maths and stats tutorials at the University of Edinburgh and the University of Cambridge.
Her research is mainly centred around epidemiology, an area which she has explored from different angles. Specifically, she modelled sea lice populations while at the Global Academy of Agriculture and Food Security, identified risk factors for detecting bovine TB through slaughterhouse inspection as opposed to testing while at the University of Cambridge and completed a PhD in Quantitative Genetics at the Roslin Institute developing a tool to estimate the genetic component of epidemiological parameters.
She also worked as a data scientist at Scottish Water for three years. During that time she delivered a variety of projects and communicated their results to stakeholders from a range of different backgrounds.
Debby enjoys multi-disciplinary projects and her overarching interest is the application of mathematical, statistical and computational methodologies to answer biological questions relating to epidemiology and genetics in particular.
