Personal profile


Dr Deborah Jackson is the Director of Visual Culture at Edinburgh College of Art as well as the Director of Equalities. She is a Lecturer in Contemporary Art Theory and Practice and has taught at ECA since 2006.  

Deborah teaches across the BA programme and is the Director of the MA Contemporary Art Theory programme. She supervises MPhil/PhD students and is interested in new enquiries in the areas associated with her research.

She is also a curator, writer, Visiting Lecturer at Glasgow School of Art, and the Lead Editor for Visual Culture in Britain, a peer-reviewed journal published by Routledge.

From 2006-2008 Deborah was co-Director of Embassy (est. 2004), an artist-run gallery in Edinburgh. She has also worked as Curator/Producer for the Edinburgh Art Festival, Scotland’s largest annual visual art festival. She has also works as a Curatorial Researcher at Talbot Rice, the public art gallery of the University of Edinburgh.
