Dermot Cavanagh joined the department in 2004 having taught previously at the universities of Northumbria and Exeter. He has written widely on early modern literature, especially on Shakespeare and Renaissance theatre.
Dermot Cavanagh’s principal research interest lies in early modern political drama. He has edited King John for the third edition of the Norton Shakespeare (forthcoming, 2015) and is working on a critical study of Shakespeare and the commonwealth. He welcomes research proposals in any area of early modern literature and theatre, but especially from those with interests in the following: Shakespeare; Marlowe; Elizabethan and Jacobean drama; Reformation and sixteenth-century writing; modern and contemporary adaptations of Shakespeare.
