Personal profile

Biography

Dr Mahadeen completed her PhD at the Centre for Women’s Studies at the University of York in 2013. Her doctorate critically examined representations of virginity in online Jordanian media by analysing texts as well as production and consumption processes. Before coming to Edinburgh, Dr Mahadeen received a visiting scholarship from the Council for British Research in the Levant in 2013 and worked simultaneously as a Research Consultant with the Arab Foundation for Freedoms and Equality. With a professional background in reporting and online media, Dr Mahadeen’s research focuses on the intersection of gender, sexuality, and media within an Arab context.
