Personal profile

Biography

I am a social scientist and health services researcher with a PhD in mental health. I have extensive experience in qualitative research and qualitative research methods and in mixed methods research. My work focuses on health service redesign, health inequalities, supporting patients with complex care needs in the community, understanding unplanned hospital admissions/readmissions, and developing eHealth solutions to enhance patient care. I have worked in a range of NHS settings as a project manager and  researcher on projects across acute, psychiatric, and primary care, including research into survivorship after critical illness, the development of digital recovery resources, and evaluation of AI and video consulting tools in primary care. I was Project Manager for the SCARF initiative at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and have also collaborated on a systematic review to advance theory on survivorship following critical illness. I have extensive teaching experience as a teaching fellow contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching on the social determinants of health, health inequalities, health and social care in the community and research methods. Since 2020 I have been mostly involved in primary care research including an evaluation of the 2018 Scottish GP contract and its impact on transforming primary care and health inequalities; an evaluation of the roll out of  social prescribing link workers in primary care in England and Scotland. I'm currently working on a project investigating the introduction of additional MDT roles in primary care across England and Scotland.
