Biography

Dr. Fiona Borthwick holds a PhD in Environmental Science and Policy from Central European University, with her dissertation focusing on international approaches to environmental management in post-conflict regions of South Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and the Caucasus. With over 15 years of teaching experience in environmental management and Environmental Impact Assessment at Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC) and the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, Fiona has developed a strong interest in social networks, behavior change, and conflict.

Her research delves into food security and sustainable agriculture, using social network analysis and behavior change models to explore barriers to sustainable agricultural innovations, Integrated Pest Management, and the connections between sustainable agriculture and diets. Fiona served as Programme Director for the campus-based MSc in Food Security at SRUC/University of Edinburgh for five years and chaired the Professional Certificate in Strategic Food Security Planning for the International Centre for Parliamentary Studies in 2014 and 2017.

She has designed various postgraduate programs, including the MSc in Global Food Security and Nutrition and the MSc in Planetary Health. Additionally, Fiona has launched several public courses, such as a MOOC in Sustainable Food Systems and a CPD for high school teachers. Currently, she is the Director of Postgraduate Teaching at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies (R(D)SVS).
