1990-1993: Post-doctoral Research Assistant, Imperial College, University of London.

1993-1998: Departmental Lecturer in Invertebrate Zoology, Department of Zoology, Oxford   University.

1993-1998: Tutorial Fellow in Zoology, Magdalen College, Oxford. Awarded Apgar prize for   teaching excellence.

1998: Appointed Lecturer in Ecology, Edinburgh University. Promoted Senior Lecturer 2005, Reader 2008, Professor 2011
