Personal profile

Research Interests

My main research areas focus around combining behaviour and physiology to deepen our understanding of animal welfare issues. Project topics which I have worked on include: animal welfare, farm animals, lab animals, humane slaughter, euthanasia, animal transport, play behaviour & social networking, animal consciousness, pain, aggression and stress.

Graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a BSc (Hons) in Zoology and an MSc in Applied Animal Behaviour and Animal Welfare. I then went into a PhD in Animal Health at the University of Glasgow, while working part-time as a research assistant. I returned to the University of Edinburgh and joined R(D)SVS in Dec 2015. I am now a Senior Lecturer in Physiology & Animal Welfare, undertaking independent and joint animal welfare and physiology focussed research.
