Biography

Dr. Joanne Kenney is a Research Fellow at the Hub for Metabolic Psychiatry, University of Edinburgh, advancing data analytics and research in the emerging field of metabolic psychiatry. With a PhD in Medicine (Anatomy) from the University of Galway (2017) and over 15 years of experience in neuroimaging, computational psychiatry, and interdisciplinary research, her work explores the neurobiological mechanisms underlying psychiatric disorders and she is excited to explore the role of metabolic dysfunction in mental health.

She has held academic positions at institutions including Trinity College Dublin, Dublin City University, and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, securing competitive research funding and contributing to over 40 peer-reviewed publications.

Beyond research, she is a dedicated mentor and advocate for equality, diversity, and inclusion in academia, co-founding the charity Women in Research Ireland and leading initiatives to support underrepresented groups in STEM.
