Personal profile

Biography

I did my BSc Hons degree in pharmacology at the University of Aberdeen, then my PhD in neuropeptide physiology and pharmacology at Glasgow Caledonian University. Postdoc positions at the Universities of Strathclyde and Chicago followed. I have been at the University of Edinburgh since 2004 and am currently Director of UG Prpgrammes at the Zhejiang University-University of Edinburgh Joint Institute (ZJE).

My research in a nutshell

The brain controls eating behaviour under the influence of hormones. I use translational models to study the brain's appetite control systems, and how these systems interact with environmental factors.

Teaching

I teach on and have oversight of the ZJE programmes, and teach on a number of BSc and MBChB courses in Edinburgh.
