Juline Beaujouan is a passionate researcher and educator with transdisciplinary experience in the field of Peace and Conflict Studies and a keen interest in collaborative and responsible research practices. She is currently a Post-doctoral Research Fellow with PeaceRep, based at the University of Edinburgh. Juline combines academic expertise with evidence-based policymaking and community inclusion and engagement, which she developed over eight years of field experience across Europe and the Middle East and North Africa. She uses her permanent engagement with the ground to provide contextual and needs-based analysis that informs European foreign affairs and public diplomacy policy priorities. She also delivers tailored training to governmental and intergovernmental institutions on geopolitical and humanitarian issues in the Middle East, particularly in Iraq and Syria.

Building on both data-driven quantitative research and detailed fieldwork, my different projects examine the major trends and shifts in the post-1990 peace and transition process landscape with the view to i/ create new imaginaries and understanding of complex conflicts and the efforts to solve them, ii/ support peace and transition processes to innovate and adapt to changing conflict contexts, iii/ inform peace efforts in-country through governmental and non-governmental partners. I developed research centred around three interlinked themes:
1. Fragmentation and complex conflicts: I lead research on the emergence of increasingly complex intra-state conflicts in the Middle East, the consequences of such complexity on peace practices, and the strategies used by local populations and practitioners to navigate this complexity.
2. Peace processes and agreements: I have been a contributor to the PA-X peace agreements databases, developed by Prof. Christine Bell, since 2019. Besides providing conceptual and empirical analysis on the end of comprehensive peace agreements and the big peace, I also take part in data collection, data analysis, and data clean-up for every annual data release of the databases.
3. Global transitions: I lead research on the engagement of new actors of peacemaking in the Middle East, their practices, and their relationship with the UN peacemaking framework.
I am the sole course convenor for the PG courses open to development, law and political science students at the University of Edinburgh. These courses are available to and practitioners as CPDs.
