Katia graduated from the University of Parma, Italy, many years ago, she worked in a mixed practice for a short period of time before retunring to academia to complete a PhD in Veterinary Clinical Electrophysiology.
After moving to USA, she completed a Small Animal Rotating Internship at Auburn University, AL and a residency in Veterinary Neurology at the University of Pennsylvania.
In 2003, she became a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine with a subspecialty in Neurology. Katia is also a member of the European College of Veterinary Neurology and a RCVS recognised specialist in Neurology.
Katia has authored various papers on clinical neurology and held academic posts in United States, first as Clinical Instructor at the University of Missouri-Columbia and then as Assistant Professor of Neurology and Neurosurgery at the University of Tennessee for 4 years.
Katia moved to UK in 2008 to be closer to the family and created a company offering consultancy in Small Animal Neurology and Neurosurgery to some of the most renowned referral practices in England before moving to Scotland to join the R(D)SVS. In August 2013 she started the Neurology and Neurosurgery Service at the Hospital for Small Animals.
Katia has a particular interest in neurological conditions affecting domestic cats, surgical treatment of syringomyelia secondary to Chiari-like malformation, movement disorders and congnitive dysfunction in dogs.
Katia is also passionate about teaching Neurology to veterinary students, general practitioners with an interest in Neurology and to a new generation of specialists in Veterinary Neurology.
