Catriona (Katy) McMillan is a Lecturer in Medical Law and Ethics at the University of Edinburgh School of Law. She is also Deputy Director of the JK Mason Institute for Medicine, Life Sciences and the Law, and Convenor of the Law Society of Scotland's Health and Medical Law Sub-Committee. 

Katy holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Glasgow (2013), a Master of Laws from the London School of Economics and Political Science (2014), and a PhD in Medical Law and Ethics from the University of Edinburgh (2018). She is the author of 'The Human Embryo in vitro: Breaking the Legal Stalemate' (Cambridge University Press, 2021) and co-editor of The Cambridge Handbook of Health Research Regulation (Cambridge University Press, 2021). Her research interests lie in the law and ethics surrounding health technologies and human reproduction.

Katy was previously a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow at the law school. Her project was entitled: "‘Femtech’ and the process of becoming a 'better' woman: how should law and regulation respond to health technologies targeted at improving women’s health and well-being?". Before her Postdoctoral Fellowship, she was a Senior Research Fellow working on the Wellcome Trust funded project 'Confronting the Liminal Spaces of Health Research Regulation.'
