Personal profile


I am currently a senior researcher in the Molecular Physiology group led by Professor John Mullins. I have expertise in genome engineering and have generated both mouse and rat transgenic models to elucidate  gene function in projects relating to aspects of cardiovascular/renal biology and steroid metabolism. I have copy editing experience with Springer Verlag. I previously worked at Roswell Park Memorial Institute, with Professor Verne Chapman, where I gained experience in gene mapping, and the ICI/Joint lab at Leicester University where I learnt gene cloning techniques


My research in a nutshell

Over the last 25 years I have been involved in the generation and characterisation of transgenic mouse and rat models - using microinjection with BACs, ES cell gene knock-out and blastocyst injection, and more recently using genome engineering with ZFN and CRISPR-Cas9 technologies. Gene targets have included renin, 11 B-hydroxylase and hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 2. The models have been extensively characterised for renal function, blood pressure and aspects of metabolism. I am currently planning CRISPR-Cas 9 targeting experiments in zebrafish
