Biography

Dr. Louise Hatherall is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow within the Centre for Biomedicine, Self and Society at the University of Edinburgh. She is currently working on the ‘Trustworthy Autonomous Systems’ project. She obtained her LLB from the University of Kent (2011) and her MSc (2016) and PhD from the University of Bristol (2021). She is interested in socio-legal empirical research, and is interested in how this can explore the intersections between the public, public interest, patents, and new or controversial technologies. 

Louise teaches on 'Foundations of Knowledge' (Bioethics, Law and Social Sciences) and 'Contemporary Issues' (Biomedicine, Ethics and Society). She has previously taught core foundational Law modules (including Constitutional Law, and Introduction to Studying Law) and has delivered guest lectures on Intellectual Property Law and Socio-Legal approaches to research. 

Louise is an External Examiner at the University of Reading. She is also an active member of the Socio-Legal Studies Association, Patent Scholars Network, NELSIP, and the Empirical Legal Research Network.
