Personal profile

Biography

I have over 11 years experience of working in Initial Teacher Education (ITE) focusing on primary education, teaching on both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, being responsible for a range of roles including module leader, link tutor, placement lead and year lead. My areas of expertise include science, sustainability education, and outdoor learning across the primary curriculum. I am committed to providing high quality experiences and support for all students at all stages of their teacher education and future careers as primary school teachers.

Prior to working in ITE, I was a primary school teacher for 11 years working in Lancashire and Wigan, teaching across the primary age range. During this time, I had responsbility for Science and RE as subject lead/subject co-ordinator. Later in my teaching career, I trained as a Numbers Count Teacher, delivering the Numbers Count maths intervention programme to Year 1 children.

Current Research Interests

My research interests include outdoor learning, relationships with the outdoors, teacher practices, and practitioner research, particularly the use of self-study to explore and reflect upon practice. My work is underpinned by relationality; specifically, posthuman and feminist materialist thinking. I make use of creative and playful methods, including practices of storytelling and different ways of attending to non-human and more-than human materialities.
