Mia undertook her clinical training at Addenbrooke’s Hospital and the Rosie Maternity Hospital in Cambridge, where she continued to work after qualifying in the care and management of acute and chronic medical patients. Her clinical practice later specialised in the field of communicable diseases and sexual health, working in medical hepatology wards, infectious and tropical disease isolation units, and HIV centers around London and the South East of England.
Mia has a broad experience of research design using both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies and her research interests draw equally on her psychology, nursing and midwifery backgrounds. Mia's work focusses on the experience of health, illness and health care provision and she has a particular interest in end of life care.
Mia is currently involved in a 2 year feasibility study at the University, piloting Lung Cancer Screening in Scotland. The project has a particular focus on issues of rurality and deprivation and is led by Prof David Weller. It is funded by the CSO.
She was the Qualitative Research Fellow on the recently completed SCREEN Project, examining Cervical Screening in minority ethnic populations in Scotland, led by Dr Christine Campbell, and was one of a team of Research Fellows on the ROADMAP project working to provide the foundation for an integrated data platform for real world evidence in Alzheimer’s disease across Europe.
Outside the university, Mia has been working as an independent researcher, Co-leading a 3 year project undertaking an independent evaluation of a Hospice@Home service.
