Biography

I'm a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in the Philosophy of Technology at the University of Edinburgh. I used to hold the same position at Oxford, and did my PhD at MIT. I’m also a Fellow in Digital Ethics and Governance at the Jain Family Institute

Research Interests

I study the ethical, social, and political implications of technology. My current projects concern how values play a role in technologies; the notions of bias and neutrality in algorithms, especially search engines; human-robot relationships; and methods of ethical engineering. I also write about the nature of desire and how we communicate about it.

Education/Academic qualification

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Massachusetts Institute of Technology
