Biography

Born in Scotland in 1963, Flannigan studied for a BA Honours at Edinburgh College of Art before receiving her Masters In Fine Art at Yale University School of Art in 1987. She went on to lecture in painting at Glasgow School of Art 1995-2005, before becoming a Teaching Fellow at Edinburgh College of Art 2015-19 and 2023-24.  In 2024 she was appointed Lecturer in Fine Art (Painting). Throughout her career, Flannigan has worked with galleries across Europe and the United States. Her earlier work includes a highly acclaimed collection of portrait miniatures, that were first exhibited at the Scottish National PortraitGallery in 2004 and GENERATION: 25 years of Contemporary Art in Scotland (2014).. Recent exhibitions include presentations at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art (2018) and MATTER at Ingleby Gallery, Edinburgh 2021, Museum of Memory at Museum Arnhem, Netherlands 2024, and in 2024 Flannigan was commissioned to create Space Shuffle for the City Dome at Collective Gallery, Edinburgh during the Edinburgh Art Festival.
