Personal profile

Research Interests

I am a research associate in a group of Dr Arno Onken, working on a project in collaboration with the experimental group of Dr Nathalie Rochefort from The Centre for Discovery Brain Sciences at the University of Edinburgh.

Our project is aimed at studying context-dependent sensory processing in primary visual cortex. Recent research in neuroscience shows that neural responses to stimuli are strongly modulated by behavioural context even as early as in sensory brain areas. In order to investigate this modulation, we are developing parametric copula models embedded in a Bayesian framework for time-varying parameters. For model fitting, we use Gaussian Process latent variable inference schemes, which are naturally suited to take into account different timescales. Contrary to other commonly applied methods, this approach will make stochastic relationships explicit and generate interpretable joint models of neural responses, visual stimuli, and behaviour. Such models will deepen our understanding of functional relationships in primary visual cortex that make the visual system so versatile.
