Biography

Paul is a newly appointed paediatric gastroenterologist working in the Edinburgh Sick Children’s Hospital. Following his basic paediatric training in South-East Scotland he also trained in Yorkhill Hospital, Glasgow and King’s College, London. During his training he completed his Ph.D thesis on paediatric inflammatory bowel disease, looking at aspects of epidemiology, genetic susceptibility, faecal biomarkers and molecular biology. He has authored over 40 publications in various subjects within paediatric gastroenterology and continues his research interest, having recently been appointed as an NHS Research Scotland Clinician. He is involved in several national studies, has strong links with Napier University where he currently supervises a Ph.D student who is studying the effects of IBD medications on autophagy, and he also has research interests in the areas of nutrition, Hepatology and epidemiology.
