My research investigates how glaciers and ice sheets behave in order to understand how they will contribute to sea level and impact water resources in our warming world. The following areas have been a particular focus of my research: i) Coupling between glacier hydrology and ice dynamics; ii) Ice-ocean interactions at marine-terminating glaciers; iii) Temporal evolution of glacial drainage systems; iv) Glacier erosion and sediment evacuation from subglacial drainage systems; and v) Satellite investigations of glacier and ice-cap mass balance. My research has been supported by sustained field-based investigations in Greenland, the Canadian High Arctic and European Alps. I was awarded the Polar Medal by the Queen in 2018 in recognition of my research activities in the Arctic.
