My work centres around the development of understanding and models for complex flow patterns to tackle various industrial problems like cleaning, oil-gas transport, slurry transport, distillation, absorption, thermal management of microdevices and biological problems such as cerebral temperature regulation and lung function.

Opensource Flow Solvers

1) Two Phase Level Set (TPLS) Solver is an ultra-high resolution, highly parallelisable, 3D Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) flow solver to simulate single/ multi-phase flows at unprecedented detail, speed and accuracy

  • Latest Version: TPLS v3 released in Dec 2017 (v2 in May 2015, v1 in June 2013)
  • Download from SourceForge 
  • Optimised for supercomputing clusters such as ARCHER
  • Over 1500 downloads since June 2013 (globally by both academia and industry from at least 59 countries)

2) Vascular Porous (VaPor) Solver for Simulating Biological Temperatures is an open source software
designed to simulate biological mass flows and heat transfer simultaneously.

  • First Version Released in May 2018
  • Available as Open Source from GitHub
  • Fully tested and validated on mice and neo-natal brain vasculature
  • Accounts for both arterial and venous vasculature and porous tissue
  • Simple MATLAB interface

3) Gerris Immersed Solid Solver (GISS) is a powerful and an efficient 3D Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) solver to simulate solid-fluid flows at unprecedented detail.

  • 6 degree of freedom motion of multiple solids of arbitrary shape
  • Available as Open Source from GitHub
  • Seamless coupling with Gerris Flow Solver
