Personal profile

Biography

I am a PostDoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) at the University of Edinburgh, School of GeoSciences. My research focuses on Artificial Intelligence and Machine (Deep) Learning applications for Earth Observation data, specifically Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data. My current research explores Radar-vegetation interactions and Above Ground Biomass (AGB) estimation using physics-informed deep learning models. My expertise lies in developing machine (deep) learning and AI models for various Earth Observation applications, including environmental monitoring, land cover classification, semantic information discovery, and SAR raw data compression, to enhance data analysis and support decision-making processes.

Before joining the University of Edinburgh, I earned my PhD from the University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest, Romania, as part of the MENELAOS-NT project under a Marie Curie fellowship. My doctoral research focused on developing complex-valued deep learning architectures for SAR data processing. Later, I contributed to the Market Activity Index (MAI) project at Stanford University, to detect and assess economic activities in local markets in low-income regions using high-resolution Earth observation data.
