My research in a nutshell

Epilepsy is one of the five most common neurological disorders worldwide with 1% of children affected. Up to 80% of chidren will have cognitive and or beahvioural problems but these are often overlooked.  A third of children will have epilepsy that does not respond to current treatments and in 65%, the cause for their epilepsy is unknown. Status Epilepticus is the most common medical neurological emergency in childhood with up to a third requiring admission to intensive care. My research is aimed at using epidemiological and multidisciplinary approaches to identify novel strategies for early detection for cognitive and behavioural problems, improve treatments and determine causes of childhood epilepsy and status epilepticys.
