Biography

Dr Rose Penfold is a clinical academic at the University of Edinburgh, specialising in Geriatric Medicine. She is currently a fellow on the Multimorbidity PhD Programme for Health Professionals, supported by the Wellcome Trust (2022-2026). Her PhD is supervised by Professor Alasdair MacLullich (Ageing and Health).

Her PhD research uses linked large-scale routine data to study the associations between multimorbidity, delirium, and outcomes including mortality and dementia in acutely hospitalised older adults. Her broader research interests are in the epidemiology of frailty, delirium, and dementia.

Alongside her research and clinical commitments, she is co-chair of the research subgroup for the Public Health Scotland Scottish Hip Fracture Audit, co-chair of the Geriatric Medicine Research Collaborative (a trainee-led geriatric medicine research collaborative), and a co-founder and co-director of Women Speakers in Healthcare, a grassroots database organisation committed to gender balance across health and social care.
