The Dick Vet Equine Practice
I undertook my veterinary training at the University of Cambridge graduating in 2006. I spent some years in practice and then went on to specialist training in Equine Internal Medicine at the University of Liverpool before moving to edinburgh to undertake my PhD. Following my PhD I spent some time as a post-doctoral researcher prior to becoming a Wellcome Trust Clinical Career Development Fellow, a 4 year post.
MA VetMB CertAVP(EM) DipECEIM PhD MRCVS European Specialist in Equine Internal Medicine
I have an active collaboration with Professor Alex Odermatt at the University of Basel.
I am interested in the metabolism of stress hormones by different species (horses, humans and mice) and the impact of metabolism on health and disease. I investigate the role of glucocorticoid metabolites in the excessive activation of glucocorticoid and mineralocorticoid receptors in obesity associated morbidities such as hypertension. I am interested in comparative endocrinology and what we can learn about glucocorticoids and disease from different species.
