Before joining the English Literature department in 2004, Dr Simon Malpas taught English at Manchester Metropolitan University. He took his first degree in Drama and Theatre Arts at Birmingham before moving to Cardiff University to complete an MA in Critical and Cultural Theory and a PhD on time and aesthetics in English Romantic poetry, German Idealist philosophy and contemporary theory.
Simon’s research interests include aesthetics, Romanticism, continental philosophy, literary theory, postmodernism, and the literature, culture and politics of the Restoration period. As well as these areas, he has also supervised postgraduate research in Victorian and modernist literature and contemporary drama and theatre. He would be happy to discuss potential projects with research students wishing to work in any of these areas.
