Biography

Stephen Thomas was born in Toronto, Canada, and moved to the South West of the UK at a young age. After completing his MChem at Cardiff University working with Prof. Nick Tomkinson, he moved to Churchill College, Cambridge University in 2007 for a PhD working with Dr Stuart Warren. Postdoctoral work with Prof. Andreas Pfaltz at the University of Basel, Switzerland, was shortly followed by an appointment as a Lecturer at the University of Bristol.  In 2012 Stephen and his group moved to the University of Edinburgh.  His research interests are based on organometallic catalysis, synthetic methodology and mechanism, with a focus on the use on non-precious metals to replace and expand upon the reactivity of traditionally used 2nd and 3rd row transition-metals.
