Bronchiolitis
I am Chair of the NICE Guideline for Bronchiolitis and through this write reviews (BMJ 2015), editorials (x3 past 12 months), provide national requested talks (x2 last 12 months) and am founder member of the UK British Lung Foundation Coalition for Bronchiolitis (aiming to improve understanding and reduce admissions), a member of the NICE Quality Standards Advisory Committee and am lead advisor for NHS Choices and MapOfMedicine for web based bronchiolitis advice. Through this I disseminate and embed key messages from our research into clinical practice.
Cystic Fibrosis
Member of the UK CF Registry Committee - I am able to engage the Registry to support research outcomes (in particular the development of randomised registry trials) and to act as an advice conduit for researchers who wish for advice on how to use the registry data to answer key questions in CF. I am also PI for Phase IV Pharmacovigilence trials run through the CF Registry. As one of seven international members of the US Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Therapeutics Data Safety Monitoring Committee, I engage with a range of novel interventions in CF that enable me to understand key developments that may help our future CF studies.
Rare Disease
As UK National Co-ordinator for the ChILDEU project, I provide support for rare lung diseases through engagement with parent groups (invited lecture 2014), clinicians (invited UK lectures 2013 and 2014, invited international lectures x2 for 2016). My role as Vice Chair of the MHRA Paediatric Medicines Expert Advisory Group, with corresponding Vice role at the Commission for Human Medicines, provides me with significant understanding of the scope for intervention studies in rare disease that I disseminate through the ChILDEU team, parents and clinicians.
Asthma
I support effective knowledge exchange for asthma care through roles as
Member of the UK Asthma UK Centre for Applied Research, ERS EU (EMA) Asthma biologics group and Member of the SIGN/BTS Asthma guideline. I am also Chair of the Asthma Initiative at the Swiss based Bright Start Foundation, aiming is to develop asthma services in developing nations, commencing with a middle east programme. Using my guideline experience we are developing an asthma guideline fit for purpose in the middle east, a train the trainer programme and a range of asthma care video clips. The programme launched in November 2015.
