Personal profile

Biography

My research centres on children and youth geographies, with a focus on co-creating spatial vocabularies with and for children and young people in the Majority World. Grounded in extensive fieldwork in India, I interrogate how childhoods in the Majority World are shaped by distinct spatial materialities, influenced by factors such as age, gender, religion, and caste. By engaging with geographies of childhood, urban planning, and design, my work reimagines the everyday geographies and lived realities of children and young people in these regions.

My research portfolio spans India, Brazil, the Netherlands, Turkey, Israel, and the UK, and I have served as Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator on numerous projects related to urban transformations, funded by the UK, EU, and third-sector organisations.

I currently hold a Personal Chair in Geographies of Children and Young People at the School of GeoSciences, University of Edinburgh.
