Susan qualified from the University of Glasgow Veterinary School in 2008 and also has a first class Honours M.Sci degree in Parasitology, from the University of Glasgow (2001). On graduation Susan undertook an equine surgical and medical internship at Fethard Equine Hospital, Coolmore, Ireland and moved on to a residency in Equine Internal Medicine at Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga, Australia in 2010. Susan returned to Scotland in 2014 and joined the University of Edinburgh team combining practical work in equine veterinary medicine, as a Locum Lecturer in the Dick Vet Equine Practice with her strong interest in research. She undertook a PhD investigating urinary extracellular vesicles in human and companion animals, and has also cpmpleted her RCVS Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice. Susan's focus is now the reserach and development of biomarkers, particulary microRNAs to improve diagnostics in the companion animal sector.
