Biography

Dr Tim Wilkinson is a Senior Clinical Research Fellow at the Centre for Clinical Brain Sciences, University of Edinburgh and an Honorary Consultant Neurologist at NHS Lothian.

A previous MRC Clinical Research Training Fellow, Tim completed his PhD in dementia risk prediction in 2020. His research focuses on the use of routinely-collected health data (such as primary care or hospital admissions data) in epidemiological studies of dementia. Tim co-created the SAIL Dementia e-Cohort (SAIL-Dec, https://portal.dementiasplatform.uk/Home/SAILDementiaECohort), a 'virtual' cohort created from Welsh routine data, designed to facilitate epidemiological dementia research.

After completing his neurology training, Tim completed a one year clinical and research fellowship in cognitive and movement disorders at the University of Toronto, Canada, under the supervision of Dr Mario Masellis and Dr Sandra Black.
